There is Premier League interest in the Newcastle United-linked Alexander Nubel but it is expected that the goalkeeper will sign a new contract with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

HITC Football understands that, amid uncertainty surrounding the shot-stopper’s future, a number of English-based clubs are watching the situation with interest.

Newcastle United may be one of those, HITC having been told that Eddie Howe’s side are looking at bringing in a new first-choice goalkeeper during the summer. Arsenal benchwarmer Aaron Ramsdale is an option, with The Magpies likely to prioritise a man more comfortable with the ball at his feet than Nick Pope.

According to German publication BILD, Alexander Nubel has admirers at St James’ Park too.

But while Nubel will certainly come a lot cheaper than Ramsdale – it is believed that the former Monaco loanee is valued at just £8.5 million – there expectation is at this stage that a man who was brought in to act as a long-term replacement for Manuel Neuer at Bayern Munich could still fulfil that role in the near future.

Neuer is keen to play on, perhaps even until the 2026 World Cup. But he is also now 38, and recently spent a long time on the sidelines with a broken leg.

Nubel, who also has admirers in Italy, Spain and France, is currently under contract until next summer but there is an expectation that he will sign fresh terms with the Bavarian giants.

Bayern Munich keen to keep Stuttgart loanee

Nubel is currently on loan at Stuttgart, his fine performances between the sticks helping Sebastian Hoeness’ side move into the Champions League places. The 27-year-old joined Bayern from Schalke on a free transfer back in 2020 but has still played only four games for the club.

He did, however, make nearly 100 appearances during two seasons on loan at Monaco in France.

Newcastle’s pursuit of a new goalkeeper will raise questions about the futures of both Pope and the long-serving Martin Dubravka. Loris Karius, meanwhile, is making no secret of his desire to embark on a move to Serie A.
