Great News: The Return of Chadwick Tromp, Season Descriptions, and Much More

SF Giants: Chadwick Tromp placed on IL with shoulder strain

After refusing to tender Chadwick Tromp on Friday, the Braves re-signed him to a minor league contract. This isn’t a big deal, but Tromp is a guy who seems like he’ll reach the majors again for Atlanta this season, as he’s a perfectly good third catcher with minor league options who can come up and fill in for an injury in the major league catching pair. I’m surprised he returned so quickly and didn’t look for a major league deal, given the bar at catcher is so low that I’d figure he could at least get a backup gig somewhere in the majors despite his subpar offensive profile.

Perhaps Atlanta struck a handshake agreement with Tromp and his agent to get him off the 40-man roster while paying him well on a minor league deal. Whatever the case may be, Tromp is a key member of the organization, and it’s great to have him back in Atlanta, along with the extra 40-man flexibility.
