Just now: Could the Warriors make a huge move with Chris Paul?

Chris Paul’s stint with the Golden State Warriors may end up being a mere footnote.

Appearing Monday on FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back,” Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that the Warriors will field calls on Paul ahead of the Feb. 8 trade deadline. Charania characterizes the possibility of Golden State trading Paul and other veterans as “open conversations.”

The 38-year-old is currently injured with a left-hand fracture and recently provided a troubling update on the injury. He was averaging 8.9 points and 7.2 assists per game for the Warriors before getting hurt. While that combination does not exactly scream “trade value,” Paul is intriguing and is on a $30.8 million expiring contract (since his deal is non-guaranteed for 2024-25.)

Saddled with an exorbitant luxury tax bill to field a roster that is now 19-24 this season (12th in the Western Conference), Golden State may need a hard reset. That means the first-year Warrior and some other notable vets are candidates to potentially be offloaded at the deadline.
