Impressive: New Baltimore Orioles’ Mound Duo Reveals Something to Do that Organization Hasn’t Seen in Nearly Last 50 Years of Team History
On Thursday night, the Baltimore Orioles struck big in the trade market, acquiring ace Corbin Burnes from the Milwaukee Brewers in a three-player deal.
The move is a win-now move for Baltimore, who won 101 games last season and is looking for their first World Series title since 1983.
After the deal was completed, MLB.com researcher Sarah Langs had a little fun with the historic potential of the Orioles rotation:
Kyle Bradish had a 2.83 ERA in 2023
Corbin Burnes had a 2.94 ERA in ’22, 2.43 in ’21 and 2.11 in ’20
the last time the Orioles had 2 qualified SP finish with sub-3.00 ERAs in the same season?
1976: Wayne Garland + Jim Palmer
Now obviously past performance is not always indicative of future success and there’s no way of knowing if either Bradish or Burnes can live up to those prior numbers, but for a fanbase that is starving for a winner, that’s a pretty good way to build excitement ahead of spring training.
The 27-year-old Bradish broke out in a huge way last season for Baltimore, striking out 168 batters in 168 innings. He also went 12-7 with that 2.83 ERA.
The two rotation members figure to be joined by Grayson Rodriguez and John Means in the starting five. The number five spot in the rotation could go to any number of pitchers, including Cole Irvin, who was acquired before the 2022 season.
The Orioles were eliminated in the playoffs a season ago by the eventual World Series champion Texas Rangers.

Baltimore Orioles World Series Odds See Major Shift After Corbin Burnes Deal
The Baltimore Orioles pulled off arguably the biggest trade of the offseason on Thursday night as they landed Milwaukee Brewers ace Corbin Burnes. In return, the Brewers received DL Hall, Joey Ortiz, and a 2024 competitive balance round A pick.
Burnes has just one year left on his contract, so this could be a rental. However, the hope is Burnes helps them during this upcoming season and gives them a shot to win the World Series while they work on signing him to a longer deal.
Hall and Ortiz are two of the better prospects in the Orioles system, Baltimore didn’t move a top-five prospect in this deal to get back the former NL Cy Young winner.
If they wanted to, a package for another player could be in the works. For now, the front office has done its part and has found the ace that the team desperately needed.
Sportsbooks took immediate notice of the move, indicating how big of a move this truly was.
According to Ben Verlander, the Orioles’ odds have drastically changed at FanDuel Sportsbook:
- World Series: +1900 to +1200
- Pennant: +900 to +550
- Division Champions: +350 to +250
- Win Total: 88.5 to 91.5
These aren’t small movements in Baltimore’s favorites. In fact, these are drastic changes and shows the type of move that the front office made on Thursday night.
In the 2023 season, Burnes had a down year for his standards. He posted a 3.39 ERA and 1.07 WHIP, but when he’s at his best, he’s a legitimate Cy Young candidate.
He’s proven that in four straight seasons as he won the award in 2021 and finished in the top-eight during the three other seasons.
