The Las Vegas Raiders have signed their coach for the 2024 season
After it was reported that the Las Vegas Raiders had the representation for coach Antonio Pierce in the building, it is being announced that they are officially coming to terms with the interim coach to become the next official head coach of the franchise. While nothing is official at this point, things are definitely trending in that direction.
This is something that the Las Vegas Raiders needed to do as the players and staff inside of the building have made it public that they wanted Antonio Pierce to be the official coach. He was the interim head coach for the franchise for the final nine games of the regular season and finished going 5-4 after being the linebackers coach for the team since 2022.
This is something to celebrate as the Raiders did not have a similar situation to what happened when the players wanted owner Mark Davis to hire interim coach Rich Bissacia two years ago before signing Josh McDaniels. It will be interesting to see what the official deal looks like.
This also officially locks in star pass-rusher Maxx Crosby, who publicly announced that if Antonio Pierce was not the Raiders coach he would ask to be traded.
What’s the next step for Antonio Pierce and the Las Vegas Raiders?
The Las Vegas Raiders have some more situations they need to figure out before anything else. The team needs to figure out who the next general manager will be, which is an interesting choice to hire a coach before the general manager. Assuming that is getting cleared up already, this team has one of the more intriguing offseasons to work out.
The offense can look a lot different than it did to kick off last season as quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was benched when Pierce took over and replaced with rookie Aidan O’Connell. Finding a new home for the quarterback the team paid a three-year/$72.75 million contract on last offseason is critical. They also need to figure out what the next step is for running back Josh Jacobs, who is an impending free agent.
That makes this offense look completely different but attacking the NFL draft is going to be critical. Aidan O’Connell played decently well as he was 213-of-343 (62.1 completion percentage) for 2,218 yards with 12 touchdowns to seven interceptions. However, with the team holding the 13th pick in the 2024 NFL draft, they are in position to add a strong player to help on this side of the ball.
With the Las Vegas Raiders having a defensive-minded coach, getting the offensive side of the ball clicking will be imperative to success.
