Matt LaFleur Might Have Just Given Away The Team’s Next Defensive Coordinator
The Green Bay Packers will have a few significant decisions to make this upcoming off-season. One of the biggest that stands out is what they will do their Joe Barry, the leader of the defense. It has been widely presumed that this will be his last year with the team given recent performances we have seen.
Matt LaFleur has remained steadfast in his commitment to Barry, at least for this season. He has made it very clear that he doesn’t think in-season changes are necessary. However, he did have some glowing remarks regarding a defensive coordinator candidate who many figure was a finalist for the job in Green Bay prior to the team hiring Joe Barry.
Matt LaFleur and the Packers’ offense will face off against Ejiro Evero and the Panthers defense in Week 16. Prior to the contest, LaFleur had nothing but glowing remarks about what Evero has done with the Panthers’ defense this season:
LaFleur and Evero worked together under Head Coach Sean McVay. LaFleur was the offensive coordinator in 2017 while Evero was the safeties coach.
If the Panthers decide to go in a different direction with their head coaching vacancy, Evero would likely jump to the top of the list for the Packers. Green Bay considered Evero for defensive coordinator three years ago prior to hiring Joe Barry.
LaFleur’s recent comments prove that he has paid attention to what Evero has done since they decided to go in a different direction.
