Milan Closing In on Two Secondary Contract Renewals worth $320M
Milan are trying to handle some big-ticket extensions, but a pair of less trumpeted ones are closer to coming to fruition, as they are in advanced talks with Yacine Adli and Davide Calabria. Their captain has just a year on his deal, but he’s not a threat to leave. Instead, the Frenchman is tied to them until 2026, Calciomercato informed.
The Rossoneri want to reward the midfielder for his growth this season. He was more likely to leave than to stay last summer after being an afterthought in his maiden Serie A campaign. Instead, he has become a valuable backup and fill-in starter in a new role. He has one of the lowest salaries in the squad since he makes €800k.
Calabria and Adli are poised to stay at Milan for a few years. The fullback earns €2M annually and asks for a reasonable pay raise. He recently voiced his attachment to the team, saying he was open to finishing his career with them.
According to The Mail’s Alvise Cagnazzo, Paolo Maldini is one of the top contenders to become Newcastle United’s next sporing director.
He reports that the Italian legend ‘would jump at the chance to relace Dan Ashworth’ and is currently just ahead of Paul Mitchell in the running to take charge on Tyneside.
Maldini left his role at AC Milan – the club he captained for so many years – last summer and is thought to be on the lookout for an ambitious project in Europe after rejecting a host of offers from Saudi Arabia.
He was praised at Milan for his ability to attract exciting young talents and, according to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, the 55-year-old is regarded by many as a ‘silent and competent voice of authority’ and is considered an icon by so many in the game following his successful playing career.
