The Miami Heat are Preparing a Major Move for their Star Point Guard.
It’s fairly amazing that the Miami Heat have managed to shake off a horrible offseason and currently sit as one of the top four teams in the Eastern Conference through the first month of the season. The Heat have won eight of their previous nine games and appear to be a club that will play a role in how the East is won this season.
However, if the Heat is to genuinely compete with some of the East’s more skilled teams, they will almost certainly need to make a trade or two before the NBA Trade Deadline. The point guard position has been a major necessity for the Heat.
Kyle Lowry has been solid at times this season but has struggled with consistency, and Father Time is obviously taking its toll on the former All-Star guard. In summary, it makes sense for the Heat to add another starting-caliber point guard to their backcourt.
Tyus Jones, according to a recent report, is one guy who could fit what the Heat is searching for in the position. The Heat is keeping an eye on him.
Will the Miami Heat Act before the NBA Trade Deadline?
The key issue is whether or not the Heat will sign a contract before the deadline. Miami is no stranger to showing interest in players. However, they’ve recently struggled to close deals for impact players, as we saw this offseason with Bradley Beal and Damian Lillard.
However, if the Heat is serious about making another long postseason run, they will almost certainly need to add to their backcourt. With Lowry’s inconsistency, Tyler Herro’s injury history, and Josh Richardson’s underwhelming start, it would be in the Heat’s best interest to add a guard before the trade deadline.
Jones would be an intriguing addition to the Heat. He’s shown throughout his career that he can be a starting-caliber point guard. Jones is averaging 10 points, five assists, and three rebounds a game this season for the Washington Wizards while shooting 49 percent from the field and 37 percent from 3-point range.
Given the low asking price, there’s a decent chance Jones ends up being a strong trade target for the Heat as the deadline approaches.
