Newcastle United is trying to sign the “exciting” 22-year-old Aston Villa star

Newcastle United have now made an approach to sign an exciting Aston Villa talent this month as they look to bolster the midfield.

Newcastle are very short in numbers in the middle of the park following injuries to Joelinton and Joe Willock as well as Sandro Tonali’s suspension.

Now, a new report from The Athletic suggests that Newcastle may try to solve their midfield issues by signing Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey this month, though they will need to make a sale first.

Newcastle want to bring in ‘exciting’ Villa youngster this month

There’s already been a huge emphasis placed on bringing in young talent and Newcastle now have a young core of Sven Botman, Tino Livramento, Alexander Isak, Joe Willock and Anthony Gordon who are all 24 or younger.

Ramsey would fit that model perfectly having already gained a lot of Premier League experience with Aston Villa where he has made 101 appearances in the top flight.

Although they don’t typically play with an attacking midfielder in the side, Ramsey could be that creative spark that the team having been missing as of late to link up with Isak up top.

The Swedish striker has been making some excellent runs in recent games but there’s just nobody in the squad with the ability to pick out a special pass to find him, but the ‘exciting‘ Ramsey could be the key to unlocking him.

Newcastle have to make a sale this month

It’s all well and good listing the players who Newcastle are keen on signing in January, but none of that will be possible if they don’t make room in their budget by offloading one of their current assets.

Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson have both been rumoured with links away very recently while it looks like Kieran Trippier is set to stay at the club at least for the time being.

It’s unclear how much exactly Ramsey may cost, but given the fact he is young, English and Villa would be selling to a direct rival you can expect it to be a fairly high fee.

Eddie Howe has already claimed that he doesn’t want to lose anyone from his current squad this month, but if he wants to add quality in depth in the midfield then he’s going to have to bite the bullet.
