After Newcastle’s loss to Chelsea last night, Jamie O’Hara asserts Eddie Howe’s assertion

Pundit Jamie O’Hara has made a huge claim about Eddie Howe after his Newcastle United team were beaten 3-2 against Chelsea last night.

Newcastle’s performance at Stamford Bridge was once again disappointing as they had hoped to take revenge on their Carabao Cup quarter final defeat back in December.

On social media, O’Hara questioned whether Howe was now coming under pressure from his own fans having claimed that 10th isn’t really good enough for Newcastle this season.

Newcastle were nowhere near good enough vs Chelsea

At times this season Newcastle have simply been very unlucky and have seen some terrible decisions go against them – the 1-1 draw against PSG in the Champions League feels the most notable of the season.

However, last night’s defeat against Chelsea felt completely deserved having watched a number of Newcastle players jogging around and the team as a whole really struggling to find a rhythm.

Injuries have obviously impacted the team and the result has been a lot of disjointedness which people should be taking into consideration when judging Howe’s performance this season.

But that does not mean that the 46-year-old head coach doesn’t deserve to be receive any blame as there is still a number of things he got wrong on the night including the way he set his team up to play.

On Howe, O’Hara said: “Are we not gonna talk about how bad Newcastle have been, surely there’s fans out there who are questioning Eddie Howe now, there 10th in the table #Newcastle“

Newcastle must have a great start to the new season

Ultimately, unless Newcastle go on to lose every single one of their remaining fixtures this season, it’s very likely that Howe will still be manager for the start of the new campaign.

However, the credit that he had in the bank from last year will have been used up and his disappointing display this season has massively put the pressure on him to perform.

Once player have returned from injury and presumably Newcastle will have spent more money to bring in some reinforcements this summer, then there will be no more excuses for Howe and his team not to perform.

Europe will once again be the goal for next season, but getting off to a poor start could see the owners looking to make a change if they think Howe’s time at the club has run its course.
