Angel Reese does something no WNBA rookie ever has before with latest double-double

No WNBA rookie has ever posted more consecutive double-doubles than Angel Reese, who notched her seventh in a row Thursday in the Chicago Sky’s win over the Dallas Wings.

According to ESPN, Reese eclipsed marks set previously by Tina Charles and Cindy Brown with her 16-point, 18-rebound outing. The former LSU star also shot 7 of 13 from the field, dished out three assists and notched two steals, leading the Sky to an 83-72 win that snapped a four-game losing skid. Her 18 rebounds are a career high.

Before Thursday, the Sky had dropped six of its last seven games.

Angel Reese, a Baltimore native, celebrates during the Chicago Sky’s 79-71 victory over the Washington Mystics on Thursday, June 6, 2024, in Washington.

“I’m just happy we finally won — and at home,” Reese told the ESPN broadcast. “It’s super exciting, obviously, for myself, and I try to give myself some grace and tell myself I’m doing a good job. I have so much more to grow, and I’m just excited to be in this league and excited to win some more.”

Through 13 games, Reese is averaging 12.4 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. Even though she’s shooting only 38% from the field on the season, she converted 48% of her field goal tries across her last five games. Only A’ja Wilson, the Las Vegas Aces star forward, is averaging more rebounds per night (11.3) than Reese.

Reese grabbed an NCAA-record 34 double-doubles during the 2022-2023 season, her first at LSU.

Next, the Sky will take on Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on Sunday at 2 p.m. on ESPN. The Fever has won both of its games over the Sky this season.
