Arsenal make decision on Nottingham Forest loanee’s future ahead of summer transfer window

Nottingham Forest have all but secured Premier League football for next season and Nuno Espirito Santo can start planning for the summer transfer window.

Forest were beaten 3-2 by Chelsea on Saturday evening but Luton Town’s defeat at West Ham United effectively keeps Forest up.

A remarkable goal swing would be needed on the final day of the Premier League season for Luton to stay up at Forest’s expense.

That means Forest can start looking ahead to a third successive Premier League campaign – and that will bring big transfer decisions.

Forest’s spending has been a little scattergun since promotion and some players may need to be sold in order to raise funds this summer.

Nuno will hope for a positive window and he will surely have some ideas in mind in terms of who is staying and who is going.

For instance, it’s difficult to imagine seeing Divock Origi and Gonzalo Montiel turning out for Forest next season.

Arsenal ready to sell Nottingham Forest loanee Nuno Tavares

Forest’s loanees have failed to really prove that they should stay at the City Ground for the long term.

Origi and Montiel have made little impact and it’s unclear what the future holds for Giovanni Reyna and Rodrigo Ribeiro.

Then we come to Nuno Tavares, who has spent the season on loan at Forest from Arsenal.

The former Benfica man has only started five Premier League games though, failing to land the regular playing time he wanted.

Tavares has only played five times in the Premier League in 2024 and it’s fair to say that his future does not lie with Forest.

The Mirror now claim that Arsenal are ready to listen to bids for Tavares as they look to trim Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Tavares is one of a host of players up for sale and few will be surprised.

The Portuguese left back has spent nearly two years out on loan and Arsenal clearly want to sell.

Arsenal may have been hoping that Tavares would impress enough to tempt Forest into a deal, but that surely won’t be happening.

The appointment of a Portuguese compatriot hasn’t improved Tavares’ fortunes either, so we would not expect to see him in a Forest shirt next season.

Forest left back options

Forest saw Renan Lodi leave at the end of his loan spell last season, prompting the arrival of Tavares.

Ola Aina joined on a free transfer too, offering the flexibility to play as a left back or right back.

The former Chelsea talent has nailed down the left-sided spot and certainly deserves to stay there next season.

Forest also have Harry Toffolo in the ranks and he has shown the ability to offer strong competition for Aina moving forward.

Omar Richards shouldn’t be overlooked either.

Richards joined Forest from Bayern Munich after promotion in 2022 but has suffered injury hell.

Currently on loan at Olympiacos, Richards will be heading back to Forest for pre-season and will be looking to finally kick on.

With those options at left back, we can’t imagine that Forest will have much interest in Tavares or any other left back in the coming months.
