Nuno has ‘changed everything’ by agreeing to a €10 million deal to Nottingham Forest

Nuno has ‘changed everything’ by agreeing to a €10 million deal to Nottingham Forest

In the weeks leading up to the Christmas period, the media around Sevilla were repeatedly reporting Gonzalo Montiel was set to end his loan stint at Nottingham Forest.

For the Spanish club it represented a big disappointment, given they’d been keen for the loan to succeed and for the purchase clause to be triggered.

That clause is said to be worth €10m and if Nottingham Forest and Montiel hit a certain numbers of markers then it becomes an obligation.

Sevilla had given up and a move to South America, for a lower fee, was thought to be the solution.

Then over Christmas, Montiel spoke to the media, thanked god for his opportunity to play in the Premier League, and made it clear he’s very happy that he’s where he is now.

The difference? Well, AS put it all down to Nuno Espirito Santo, who they say has ‘changed everything’ since arriving at the club.

Sevilla now have optimism that Nuno will continue to give Montiel chances, and therefore the €10m permanent move to Nottingham Forest can happen.

Nottingham Forest confirm second piece of January transfer window business

Latest Nottingham Forest news as Reds announce contract update on first day of January transfer window

Nottingham Forest have activated a one-year extension option in defender Harry Toffolo’s contract. The left-back will now remain at the City Ground until the summer of 2025. It comes as reward for a string of excellent performances by the former Huddersfield Town man this season.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to extend my stay here and keep wearing the Forest badge with pride,” Toffolo said. The 28-year-old will no doubt now be looking to kick on in the new year as the Reds aim to push up the Premier League table.

Toffolo has made 35 appearances in the Garibaldi since making the switch from the Terriers in the summer of 2022. This season he has featured 13 times in the league and has registered three assists.

He also scored his first goal in the top-flight last month. His goal earned a 1-1 draw for the visitors away to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The defender has impressed with both his displays on the pitch and his attitude off it. He has become a key figure in the Forest dressing room.

Having had to be patient in waiting for his opportunity, he has really taken it when he has been included in the team. Ola Aina has started the last two games at left-back, with Toffolo having been rested for the 3-1 victory at Newcastle United before coming off the bench in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Manchester United.

The news comes as the January transfer window is now open for business for Forest. The club have already confirmed the departure of Gustavo Scarpa to Atletico Mineiro after his Olympiacos loan was cancelled.
