Pete Alonso, one of the most talented players in Major League Baseball, has remained a free agent despite receiving interest from other teams. While there are strong rumours of the star player returning to his former team, the New York Mets, nothing has happened yet after he rejected their three year deal for $70 million. This had left many fans hopeless but now it seems like, things might change since SNY insider Andy Martino feels that the New York Mets have been trying to offer Pete Alonso a deal and are “leaving room” for him even though they are acquiring other players.
Pete Alonso Might Just Get A Better Deal From The New York Mets, According To Andy Martino
Recently, SNY insider Andy Martino spoke about the deals of Ryne Stanek and Nick Madrigal with the New York Mets, and how it relates to the fact that the team is also trying to get back Pete Alonso. Andy Martino wrote about how initially he had heard that the New York Mets were trying to acquire “two tiers of relievers” – one that would approximately cost the team a whopping $10 million and another which was estimated to be $5 million.
But the Mets surprised many as the team went on to sign Ryne Stanek for $4.5 million and Nick Madrigal for $1.35 million. To this, Andy Martino says, “When the Mets reached a deal with Stanek on Jan. 30 for $4.5 million, it signaled to me that they were leaving room for the possibility of a pivot back to Alonso.”
Andy Martino also spoke about it on SNY’s recent video. Andy said, “There is still a lane open for the Mets to possibly still pay Alonso.”
Andy also highlighted how the New York Mets signing Ryne Stanek and Nick Madrigal means this is an indirect signal by the Mets to Pete for a potential deal. He says that the Mets must be trying to signal, “Listen, Pete, we know we decided publicly that we are moving on but we are not spending everything right now. So maybe, possibly, we can still make that work.”
Pete Alonso Has Remained Silent Over Speculations Around Joining The Toronto Blue Jays
Pete Alonso has not yet issued a statement about these speculations yet. Two weeks ago, Steve Cohen, the owner of the New York Mets had expressed “exhaustion” over negotiating with Pete Alonso and this had divided fans. Many sided with Pete Alonso while others slammed Pete Alonso and his agent, Scott Boras, for rejecting a “fair deal”.
But neither Pete Alonso nor his agent, Scott Boras, have reacted to it. There are also strong rumours of Pete Alonso considering signing a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays but nothing has been finalised yet.
Spring Training is just a couple of days away and the star player is still unassigned, leading to tensions and debates among fans.
