Novak Djokovic is stepping up his efforts to recover from a knee injury he sustained at Roland Garros, and a new update has emerged.

Just last week, it was reported that Djokovic had abandoned crutches within a few days of undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and could walk on his own.

The Serbian star tore his meniscus while competing in his fourth round at the French Open, where he defeated Francisco Cerundolo in five sets. The 24-time Grand Slam champion confirmed at the time that he was carrying an injury into the tournament, but it only got worse playing.

Last Friday, a more positive update shared by Djokovic on Instagram suggested that his road to full fitness was gathering pace quite fast. A video of the World No. 3 in positive spirits in the gym hit social media.

Djokovic was seen smiling as he put his knee up to the test of light stretching in the presence of a physical trainer. Tennis fans were quick to speculate that he was already showing great progress and that he could soon be back on the courts, with a Wimbledon appearance looking like a possibility.

However, according to Serbian outlet Sportal, Djokovic has not started running yet, although he is expected to do so this week, presumably on Wednesday or Thursday. He will run in a straight line.

The third Grand Slam of the season is set to begin on July 1st. This means Djokovic will have one and a half weeks to attain full fitness. His surgeon previously admitted he is unlikely to play at the All England Club, where the 37-year-old has won the second-most titles with seven.

If playing at Wimbledon would jeopardize his chances of appearing at the Olympics, Djokovic will most likely withdraw from the event. He has already been confirmed as one of two Serbian men who will play at the Paris Olympics in late July.
