Packers Formally Unveil RB for a four-year, $48 and Packers Re-Sign Caleb Jones

Massive Trade: Packers officially announce Signings of Running Back and Safety, a four-year, $48 million deal that includes a $12.5 million signing bonus and Packers re-sign Caleb Jones

The Green Bay Packers officially announced the signings of running back Josh Jacobs and safety Xavier McKinney on Thursday, the second day of the new league year. Both signings were initially reported during the legal tampering period on Monday.

Jacobs and McKinney are scheduled to meet with reporters from Lambeau Field on Friday morning.

Jacobs signed a four-year, $48 million deal that includes a $12.5 million signing bonus. He’s going to be the new starting running back in the post-Aaron Jones era in Green Bay. McKinney signed a four-year, $68 million deal that includes a $23 million signing bonus. He’s going to provide new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley with the perfect post safety.

Neither Jacobs nor McKinney was assigned a new uniform number.

The signings of Jacobs and McKinney represent the biggest day of free agency for the Packers since signing Za’Darius Smith, Preston Smith, Adrian Amos and Billy Turner in 2019.

Tackle Caleb Jones is set for another season with the Packers.

The NFL’s daily transaction report shows that Jones has re-signed with Green Bay. The Packers tendered Jones as an exclusive rights free agent, which made his return all but certain since Jones couldn’t talk to other teams and Thursday’s news confirms that he’ll be back.

Jones initially signed with the Packers after going undrafted in 2022 and spent most of the season on the non-football illness list. He returned to the team last year and appeared in one regular season game.

The Packers parted ways with longtime left tackle David Bakhtiari, which leaves Jones, Rasheed Walker, Zach Tom, and Luke Tenuta as their current tackles.
