The 2024 Baseball Hall of Fame results have been announced, and Chase Utley won’t be a Hall of Famer in 2024.

Utley, along with four other former Philadelphia Phillies on the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA) Hall of Fame ballot, didn’t receive enough votes to make it to the 75 percent threshold needed to be enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Utley finished with 28.8 percent of votes. His former partner in crime, Jimmy Rollins, received 14.8 percent in his third time on the ballot. In his fifth year, Bobby Abreu also earned 14.8 percent. Billy Wagner, the only Phillie who had a chance of getting in this year before the unknown ballots were counted, just missed the cut-off at 73.8 percent (just five votes shy). This was his ninth year on the ballot, so he’ll be back for one more shot in 2025. Utley, Rollins, and Abreu will also remain on the ballot for next year.

One former Phillie on the ballot won’t be back, however. José Bautista, who only played in 27 games in Philadelphia at the end of his career, only earned 1.6 percent of votes and didn’t meet the five percent minimum to remain on the ballot.

This year’s list of Hall of Fame inductees includes first-year candidates Adrián Beltré and Joe Mauer, along with Todd Helton, who was in his sixth year on the ballot.

They’ll go into the Hall of Fame with legendary manager Jim Leyland, who was voted in by the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee last month. The 2024 induction ceremony will be held on July 21 at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown.

Wagner, Utley the most likely Phillies to make it to Hall of Fame

Besides Wagner, of the four Phillies who will get another run on the 2025 Hall of Fame ballot, Utley has a strong case and the best chance of being elected at some point. Rollins and Abreu, at their current percentages, don’t look to have much of a chance of gaining enough votes in coming years to earn a spot in the Hall.

Per MLB.com’s Manny Randhawa, the list of players besides Utley who are not in the Hall of Fame despite having at least 250 homers, 150 steals and 64 bWAR only contains five names. That includes Barry Bonds (no longer eligible except via a committee vote), Alex Rodriguez and Carlos Beltrán (both currently on the ballot), and active players Mike Trout and Mookie Betts.

Utley played 1,937 games over 16 seasons from 2003 to 2018, finishing his career with 1,885 hits, 259 home runs, 1,025 RBI, 1,103 runs scored, 154 stolen bases, a .275 batting average, and an .823 OPS. Despite being a stellar defensive second baseman, Utley never won a Gold Glove.

Rollins spent 15 of his 17 MLB seasons in Philadelphia and compiled 2,455 hits, 231 home runs, 936 RBI, 1,421 runs, and 470 stolen bases in 2,275 games throughout his career.

Abreu played for 18 seasons, spending eight and half seasons as a Phillie from 1998 to 2006. The outfielder hit .291 with an .870 OPS for his career, accumulating 2,470 hits, 288 home runs, 1,363 RBI, 1,453 runs, and 400 stolen bases in 2,425 games.

Wagner finished his 16-year career with a 2.31 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, and a 24 fWAR in 903 innings. His 422 saves rank sixth all-time among MLB closers.
