Predictions, team news, and lineups for Brighton & Hove Albion Women vs. Manchester United Women.
Manchester United Women will look to win their second game in a row when they take on Brighton & Hove Albion Women at the Broadfield Stadium on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Seagulls will be hoping for a response after two successive defeats prior to the international break.
Brighton have had a disappointing start to the WSL season, with only three points from their first four games.
The Seagulls earned all of those points on the first day of the season, when they defeated Everton 2-1 at home.
Despite defeating Birmingham City in the League Cup last month, Brighton have already lost three consecutive games in the WSL.
Their first setback of the season came against West Ham United, before losing to Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea despite taking the lead in both games.
The Seagulls are currently ninth in the table and will be looking to climb up this weekend, but having lost their past four home matches in the WSL, a positive result may be difficult to come by.
Man United will concentrate on domestic competition for the rest of the season after their first-ever Women’s Champions League campaign was ended in the last round of qualification by Paris Saint-Germain.
A draw and a defeat in their two legs against the Parisians were part of a four-game winless streak (D3, L1), but the Red Devils were able to get back on track in their penultimate game before the international break.
Marc Skinner’s team showed no fear in their road match against Everton, as Nikita Parris and Rachel Williams scored twice after Melvine Malard opened the scoring, ensuring Man United ran out 5-0 winners.
With eight points from their first four games, the Red Devils enter the weekend in fourth place, with only two points separating them from first place.
Man United have won the last five competitive head-to-head encounters against the Seagulls, making them one of three teams yet to lose a WSL game this season.
Brighton goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley is expected to retain her place in the side after putting in an impressive performance against Chelsea.
Summer signing Jocelyn Carabali, who made her debut in the defeat to the WSL champions, could also keep her spot in the starting lineup.
Elisabeth Terland dropped down to the bench for the away meeting with Chelsea, but Brighton’s top scorer is set to return to the side for Sunday’s contest.
As for Man United, Gabby George and Emma Watson are sidelined with anterior cruciate ligament injuries, and they are joined in the treatment room by Aoife Mannion.
They are also unable to call upon midfielder Irene Guerrero, who is set to be out for the next two weeks due to a knee issue.
Hayley Ladd, Leah Galton and Geyse all missed the commanding win over Everton before the international break, but the trio will be fit to take part in Sunday’s contest.
Brighton & Hove Albion Women possible starting lineup:
Baggaley; Thorisdottir, Bergsvand, Carabali; Li, Losada, Pinto, Pattinson; Robinson, Bremer, Terland
Manchester United Women possible starting lineup:
Earps; Riviere, Le Tissier, Turner, Blundell; Ladd, Zelem; Garcia, Toone, Galton; Geyse
Brighton & Hove Albion Women 1-1, according to us. Manchester United Ladies
The Red Devils will be favourites to grab all three points on Sunday, having won their last five meetings against Brighton, and while the Seagulls could worry the scoring, and push for at least a point, we predict Man United will demonstrate their brilliance to secure an away victory though.
