Rodger’s response: Aaron Rodgers claps back to Woody Johnson’s threats to fire him; Where will he play next…Learn More

The future of the star quarterback is hanging in the balance due to the poor performance of the team.

The soap opera of Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets has just aired a new chapter. The Jets were still grappling with the fact that Woody Johnson, owner of the team, is looking for a way to get rid of his star quarterback, when they found out that Rodgers had already responded with what seems more like a classic clap-back.

The rumors have spread like wildfire in the specialized media since Dianna Russini, insider for The Athletic, revealed the details of a harsh meeting that Johnson had at the end of September with coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas.

In the meeting, Johnson demanded that Saleh and Douglas bench Rodgers after a humilliating 10-9 loss to the Denver Broncos that left the team at 2-2.

While Saleh and Douglas stood by their signal-caller, it ended up costing both of them their respective jobs as the Jets failed to take off with A-Rod at the helm. They are now 3-8 and only a miracle would get them into the playoffs.

Rodger’s response

Russini’s revelation sent shockwaves through the media and prompted an immediate response from Rodgers. In her column for The Athletic, Russini revealed, “Aaron Rodgers still wants to play in 2025, but not for the Jets.”

The response took everyone by surprise, especially after Rodgers himself had called on his troops to take advantage of their bye week “to clear all of our heads. Come back, and stick together.”

Aaron Rodgers and Woody Johnson in happier times.

Not to mention that he still has one year left on his contract with the Gang Green, which would pay him $23.5 million, even after giving up some of his incentives to get the team to sign his old friend and trusted receiver, Davante Adams.

What will the Jets do now?

It’s no longer a secret that the relationship between Johnson and Rodgers is more than fractured. Russini’s report claims that the Jets owner has lost faith that the 20-year veteran can lead them to their first postseason in 14 years.

Now, rumors point to the team taking advantage of Rodgers’ healing from a hamstring injury to bench him or even place him on injured reserve, so that Tyrod Taylor could take over the team.

However, others point to Johnson taking more drastic measures and cutting the signal-caller before the regular season ends. The soap opera continues and only time will tell how this drama ends.
