San Francisco 49ers: Star QB’s Dad Played Against Team GM
Football players usually come from an athletic family, and San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy is no different. He grew up in a household where most of the members were athletes, which spurred his competitive fire that fans have enjoyed witnessing in the playoffs.
This lineage became all the more apparent when it was revealed that his father played against one of the team’s top front-office figures during his college years.
Shawn Purdy won against San Francisco 49ers GM John Lynch
Shawn Purdy, Brock’s father, spent his days as a pitcher in the minor leagues, and his athletic career was instrumental for the young Purdy and his siblings to take up athletics.
Nick Wagoner reported that the elder Purdy played against John Lynch, the team’s general manager, when they were baseball athletes in college.
Pudy was instrumental in helping Miami get a win over Lynch’s Stanford in 1990. The box score showed that Brock’s father had a decent day against the Cardinals, holding the team to three runs through eight innings. However, he did give up nine hits before he was replaced in the eighth inning.
Purdy went on to pitch in the minors, never breaking past AAA until he retired from the game in 1998 at the age of 29. Through eight seasons in the minors, he had a 61% win-loss percentage, 3.91 ERA, and 1.353 WHIP.
His baseball talent transferred to his children. His eldest daughter played softball at Southeastern University while his two younger sons played football. Brock is enjoying life as the San Francisco 49ers’ QB1 while youngest Chubba is slinging the rock at the University of Nebraska.
Shawn Purdy’s talent and competitive drive is serving his eldest son well in the NFL. There’s no doubt that the elder Purdy will be proud of his son’s achievements regardless of the results of Super Bowl LVIII, but Brock will want to win it all for his family and the San Francisco 49ers organization that put their faith in him.
