Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant reflected on the difficulties of dealing with an injury and missing key NBA games.
Ja Morant made his return to the court on Saturday night as the Memphis Grizzlies faced off against the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite his strong performance, the Grizzlies couldn’t overcome the Lakers’ dominant trio of LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and Austin Reaves, falling 134-127. Morant was back in action after missing six consecutive NBA games due to injury.
“Obviously, being out for a stretch is tough for me. I always want to be out there on the floor,” Morant said. “Sometimes, you just have to be smart about it. I don’t want things lingering when it’s time to lock in for good.” Despite the loss, Morant put up an impressive stat line, nearly recording a triple-double with 22 points, eight rebounds, and 10 assists.
Ja Morant’s season so far
The Grizzlies entered the NBA season with aspirations of making a deep playoff run, but their success hinges on Morant’s health and availability. A fully fit Morant is essential if Memphis hopes to compete in a highly competitive Western Conference.

So far this season, Morant is averaging 22.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game. The Grizzlies must now focus on building consistency and solidifying their playoff positioning as the postseason approaches.
Morant reportedly unhappy with new offensive system
One of the major storylines in Memphis has been the dismissal of head coach Taylor Jenkins. According to a report from The Athletic’s Sam Amick, Fred Katz, and Joe Vardon, Morant has expressed frustration with the offensive system under interim head coach Tuomas Lisalo, who has continued Jenkins’ approach.
“Morant has complained about the new scheme, which takes the ball out of his hands and removes the screens he likes to use as a ball handler to make plays,” the report stated. “One league source who has seen Morant work out with the Grizzlies recently said, ‘Some days he looks like he’s ready to play, and some days he looks like he doesn’t want to be there because he hates the offense.’”
