Why the referee apologize to Abdoulaye Doucoure after the Everton, AFCON ruling was made?
Abdoulaye Doucoure believes his Everton team was subjected to some ‘terrible’ decisions against Brighton & Hove Albion and has announced that he would not compete in the next Africa Cup of Nations.
With a sharing of the spoils against the Seagulls on Saturday afternoon, the Blues extended their unbeaten run to three games in all competitions. Vitalii Mykolenko’s first-half opener was cancelled out by Ashley Young’s late own goal.
After the game, Blues manager Sean Dyche felt that his team should have been awarded a penalty when Dominic Calvert-Lewin fell down inside the area under a challenge from Jan Paul van Hecke.
Doucoure was enraged by another incident midway through the first half. Calvert-Lewin was hacked down on the edge of the box by Lewis Dunk, but instead of allowing play to continue with Doucoure through on goal, referee Tim Robinson whistled for the foul and awarded a free-kick, which was hammered over by James Garner.
Doucoure, on the other hand, was dissatisfied with the call and reported that referee Robinson apologized to him after awarding the foul, acknowledging that he had been too eager to blow his whistle.
When asked about some of Robinson’s calls, he remarked, “I think the first one in the first half, when Dominic went down, I was alone, to be honest, and the referee just blows the whistle.”
“I’m not sure why, because I was alone, and to be honest, it was a huge risk.” I believe some terrible decision (sic) will be made someday.”
When asked if the referee had spoken to him about the judgment, he replied, “He apologised after it.” He claimed I blew the whistle too soon, but we’re fighting this afternoon; we had some decent chances to win the game, but we gave up that goal that killed us at the end.”
Doucoure extended his stay at Everton to the end of June 2025 by signing a new contract on Friday. In yet another timely boost for Sean Dyche, the midfielder has announced his decision not to play Mali at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
When asked if he had decided whether or not he will play in the event, Doucoure said, “No, at the moment, I don’t think I’m going to make the Africa Nations Cup, to be honest.”
“I think I’ll stay here in an Everton shirt.” I’m not interested in going. It’s not a big deal considering I only played for the Mali national team once.
“I want to concentrate solely on my career and the club.” I have great admiration for my nation, but I intend to stay.”
“I’ve been in tough moments, to be honest,” he said before signing his new contract. It was quite difficult for me, but I never gave up.
“No one can ever break me.” I’m still fighting for the team. I’m quite pleased with my new deal. The new manager arrived and reinstated me. Everyone at the bar adores me.
“I was always playing throughout my career.” I only experienced this issue with the prior manager, who was ineffective. I’m still here, happy, alive, and yearning for more.
“My priority was always to stay, but my contract was coming to an end, and Everton needed to make a decision.” In the end, things worked out nicely because my wish was to always stay, and we came to an arrangement.”
