Questions remain after the Dodgers star went down with an injury on Saturday

Question marks surround Shohei Ohtani after the Los Angeles Dodgers star left Saturday’s World Series win over the New York Yankees in the seventh inning.

The Japanese star was called out after trying to steal second base, but while the Yankees infield headed to the dugout, he remained down clutching his left shoulder.

While his spot in the lineup didn’t come up in the order for the Dodgers again, there are questions over what Los Angeles would have done if it had.

With no baseball being played on Sunday, all the focus has shifted to Monday’s game in New York and whether Ohtani will be available. What we do know is that Ohtani suffered a shoulder injury according to manager Dave Roberts.

Shohei Ohtani suffered a subluxation of his left shoulder, Dave Roberts said. Strength testing and range of motion were good but he didn’t want to speculate until they get more tests done tomorrow,” Fabian Ardaya wrote on X.

While Roberts stated he expects Ohtani to be in the lineup in Game 3, there are some who question whether that is realistic.

Noted doctor believes Ohtani suffered serious injury

David Chao, noted sports doctor and former NFL team doctor, doesn’t believe we’ll see Ohtani in Game 3, or the rest of the series for that matter.

He believes Ohtani suffered a left shoulder dislocation, along with other significant damage, which would rule him out for the remainder of the series.

“Star player Shohei Ohtani attempted to steal second base and was tagged out, appearing to suffer by video a transient left shoulder dislocation with a possible associated labral tear based on analysis by our team of Pro Sports Docs,” he said.

“This injury is significant and will almost certainly mean the end of the World Series for Ohtani, the Dodgers’ dynamic leadoff hitter. Surgery would be expected if injury confirmed with the goal of having him close to ready by 2025 spring training.”

Surgery would be the worst case scenario for the Dodgers, as not only would it rule Ohtani out for the remainder of the series, but it would eat into his preparations for the 2025 season as well.

The good news for the Dodgers is that with or without Ohtani, they will head to New York up 2-0 in the World Series as they look to win their first title since 2020.
