The Philadelphia Phillies have risen to the top of the offseason power rankings.
MLB.com ranked all 30 MLB teams after the World Series and the Philadelphia Phillies were among the best
According to a panel of MLB.com voters, the Philadelphia Phillies are poised to be one of the top teams in baseball in 2024.
Eleven of them voted on the 2024 Power Rankings immediately after the World Series, which the Texas Rangers won over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Phillies finished fourth, trailing the Atlanta Braves, Texas Rangers, and Baltimore Orioles.
Yes, the Phillies finished second behind the Braves, whom they defeated in four games in the NL Division Series.
The Phillies went on to lose in seven games to the Diamondbacks in the NL Championship Series, effectively ruining their hopes of a second consecutive World Series appearance. However, as MLB.com points out, the Phillies are well-positioned to compete next season.
Among the elements? A healthy Bryce Harper for the whole season, a batting order that is still among the best in baseball, and some young arms in their system that may be ready for the Majors as soon as next season.
Of course, the Phillies have some tasks to complete. If they lose pitcher Aaron Nola, they must find a replacement. There have been repeated whispers that they want to trade outfielder Nick Castellanos. This squad is also older than the one they’re chasing in the National League, the Braves.
However, as MLB.com put it, “the Phillies, when healthy and grooving, are as scary as any team in baseball.”
