New York Jets fans breathed a sigh of relief after the latest update on Aaron Rodgers’ status. The injury he suffered in the Week 5 game against the Minnesota Vikings had the team and fans fearing the worst, but everything seems to indicate that it was less serious than it initially appeared.
Seeing the 20-year veteran lying on the field after a hit in the third quarter of the game against the Vikings brought back bitter memories of last year for fans. Neither fans nor the media have forgotten that Rodgers missed the entire 2023 season after injuring his Achilles tendon in the Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills.
Rodgers came out banged up on his second drive of the third quarter. While attempting a pass to Breece Hall, Rodgers’ leg became trapped between three players after being tackled by linebacker Jihad Ward. The quarterback lay on the field for a few minutes, then walked off on his own to receive medical attention.
The Jets’ veteran was able to return to the field on the next play and also finished the game. While that didn’t dampen the Jets’ fan base, the news that broke this morning dispelled most of their fears.
Rodgers’ status update
NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero broke the news via a message on his X (formerly Twitter) account. “QB Aaron Rodgers told reporters he has a low ankle sprain,” Pelissero reported without giving further details.
Hours later, Jets head coach Robert Saleh confirmed the news at a press conference. Saleh noted that his team will face the Bills in the Monday Night Football game in Week 6, giving them one more day of recovery. “I’m sure that helps, too, especially for Aaron,” the coach stressed.
