The Los Angeles Lakers are hitting their stride at just the right time, with the playoffs looming and only seven games left in the regular season. After a season of ups and downs, things took a dramatic turn when the front office made the bold decision to trade Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Luka Doncic. Since then, the team has found a new rhythm, with LeBron James and Doncic forming an electrifying duo that has completely changed the dynamic in Los Angeles.
LeBron James reveals why Luka Doncic is one of the most confident and dynamic players
“He plays the game how I’ve always wanted to inspire the next generation to play the game,” LeBron James said. “There’s nothing predetermined. If two guys are on you, it’s a numbers game. If you have the advantage and there’s a guy that can’t guard you, or if you’re able to beat him and another defender collapses, I can make the reads and pass the ball before the play even happens.”
Doncic’s ability to think ahead and create opportunities for his teammates has been a key factor in the Lakers’ success. LeBron highlighted how the 26-year-old guard’s basketball IQ allows him to elevate those around him, drawing a comparison to some of the great facilitators in NBA history.
“I’ve always loved players who instill so much confidence in their teammates that they make them believe they’re better than they are. Steve Nash did that. Luka Doncic has done that for seven years. Chris Paul did the same in New Orleans. I don’t go to the NBA Finals in 2006 if I’m not able to make my teammates believe they’re greater than what they are. That kind of leadership makes people willing to run through a wall for you.”
LeBron also took a moment to reflect on Doncic’s journey, acknowledging the experiences that shaped him into the player he is today.
Growing up playing professionally in Europe gave Doncic a level of poise and basketball IQ that most young players simply don’t have. He didn’t just adjust to the NBA—he arrived ready, stepping onto the court from day one as if he had been playing at this level for years. For LeBron, that seamless transition only solidified his belief that Doncic is one of the most unique and gifted players in the league today.

As LeBron and Luka continue to build their on-court chemistry, they recently gave fans a moment reminiscent of LeBron’s Miami Heat days. During a victory over the Memphis Grizzlies, Doncic assisted LeBron on a fast-break dunk, recreating a famous photo of LeBron and Dwyane Wade from their championship years in Miami. While not a replica, the moment symbolised a new partnership in Lakers history, one that could lead to another championship run.
