Steph Curry Makes His Thoughts Clear About State Of Warriors’ Overhaul Roster at Trade Deadline
Steph Curry Makes His Thoughts Clear About State Of Warriors’ Roster
The Golden State Warriors are not who they were supposed to be at this point in the season.
Steve Kerr’s team seems exhausted and they’ve waived the white flag way too often, even at home.
The fans are starting to lose their patience and have booed them in back-to-back games, and the players are starting to feel the pressure.
Needless to say, that includes Stephen Curry, who, for the first time in his career, seemed to urge the front office to make some trades.
When asked about the status of the team and the looming trade deadline, the legendary shooter claimed that the team could not expect different results by doing the same over and over (Via Warriors on NBC Sports).
“We have a standard that’s pretty evident that if things stay the same, that’s the definition of insanity, right? Keep doing the same thing expecting a different result,” Curry said.
This Warriors roster is flawed.
Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins continue to underperform and struggle with consistency, and Steve Kerr looks way over his head, failing to make the necessary adjustments.
Kerr has tweaked the lineup and his rotations over and over, yet nothing seems to work, so this might not be something he’ll be able to solve with this current personnel.
Then again, moving pieces won’t be easy for this team, especially if the ownership doesn’t want to part ways with Jonathan Kuminga.
The Warriors won’t break up their championship core, leaving Andrew Wiggins, Kevon Looney, Chris Paul, and Moses Moody as potential trade chips.
Whatever the case, it’s evident that something needs to change, and the clock is ticking at a faster pace in the Bay area right now.
Warriors Could Completely Overhaul Roster at Trade Deadline, Insider Suggests
The Golden State Warriors’ recent struggles have been well documented as the team has skidded to six losses in its past eight games. Now, after a brutal 141–105 home loss to the New Orleans Pelicans dropped the team’s record to 17–20 on Wednesday, significant changes could be on the horizon, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
“The mindset in Golden State right now is everyone but Steph Curry is on the table,” Charania said on FanDuel’s Run It Back while discussing potential trades. “… This Warriors team, they’re teetering right now as we’re just under a month until the trade deadline. I think they will be active. Everyone but Steph Curry has to be in play.”
Charania also pointed out that while the Warriors “hope” to keep Klay Thompson in Golden State for the long term, the two sides still haven’t reached an agreement on a new deal. He also signaled that the front office is “big fans” of Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis. However, he specified that the Warriors should make Andrew Wiggins and “everyone else” on the roster, with the exception of Curry, available to be traded at the deadline.
Whatever direction the Warriors opt to go ahead of the Feb. 8 NBA trade deadline could shake up the franchise drastically, especially if one of the team’s top players gets moved. It will be interesting to see how the dominoes fall and whether Golden State decides to break up a core that has won four NBA titles together.
