Mind-Boggling: Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic pulls off wild triple-double feat only 2 others in history achieved
Nikola Jokic is in rarefied air after mind-boggling triple-double feat
Nikola Jokic etched his name into NBA history books as the fourth player to achieve a triple-double against every team in the league, showcasing a flawless shooting night by going 10-for-10 and amassing 21 points, 19 rebounds, and 15 assists in the Denver Nuggets’ 130-110 victory over the Washington Wizards on Thursday.
Michael Porter contributed with a solid performance of 22 points and 11 rebounds, aiding the reigning champions, the Nuggets, in breaking a three-game losing streak following the All-Star hiatus.
This remarkable feat marked Jokic’s 16th triple-double of the season, placing him second only to Domantas Sabonis, who has 18. Jokic was on the verge of this accomplishment by halftime, already having secured 10 points, 14 rebounds, and 9 assists. He now joins the elite company of LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, and Maurice Stokes, who have also recorded triple-doubles against every NBA team.
Jamal Murray returned from a missed game due to tibia inflammation to contribute 18 points, 8 assists, and 3 steals for Denver. Aaron Gordon added 17 points for Denver, with Christian Braun and Peyton Watson making significant contributions off the bench. Braun had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Watson added 11 points and four blocks.
The Nuggets’ defense strategically exploited the Wizards, creating scoring opportunities through backdoor cuts for easy baskets. Despite a slow start from beyond the arc, the Nuggets shot 75.7% from inside the arc in the first half, paving the way to a commanding 72-49 lead at the break.
Denver’s aggressive play led to a season-best 88 points in the paint, and they had already built a 26-point lead by late in the second quarter. Following a three-game slump earlier in the season, the Nuggets had bounced back with a strong run, winning nine of their next ten games, a resilience they seemed poised to demonstrate again.
