Latest Updates: Miami Dolphins Restructure OLB Bradley Chubb’s Contract, Creating a Considerable amount of….
The Miami Dolphins has arguably one of the best offensive forces in the league, ranked 6th last season, and they’re continuing to grow in the offseason.
Just hours after the Dolphins restructured the contract of Jeff Wilson Jr., ESPN’s Field Yates posted on social media that Miami has restructured the contract of linebacker Bradley Chubb, creating a considerable amount of cap space.
The Miami Dolphins Restructure Bradley Chubb’s Contract
The Dolphins were able to make a huge splash in 2022 when they acquired Chubb via trade and were quick to sign Chubb to a five-year extension worth $110M with $63.2M guaranteed.
However, heading into the 2024-2025 season, the Dolphins have restructured Chubb’s contract, opening up at least $11M of cap space. Miami converted $13.75M of his base salary into a signing bonus, which helps open up some space for the team to continue to sign free agents in this offseason.
This restructure comes a week after Miami was able to retouch the contracts of defensive tackle Zach Sieler, cornerback Jalen Ramsey, fullback Alec Ingold, and tight end Durham Smythe. The team also reduced the salary of offensive tackle Terron Armstead.
Chubb had a very productive 2023 season, tallying 11 sacks which amount for the second most sacks in a single season. In the second to last game of the regular season, Chubb would tear his ACL and miss the regular season finale as well as the Wild Card loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
There’s no information on whether or not Chubb will be ready for Week 1 of the 2024 regular season, but the Dolphins have the back-up options to put on the field should the linebacker need more time to recover.
More Cap Space = New Signings, Salary Adjustments
With the restructuring and salary adjustments, the Miami Dolphins are able to bring on a handful of newcomers in linebackers Anthony Walker Jr. and Jordyn Brooks, cornerbacks Sirean Neal and Kendall Fuller, center Aaron Brewer, pass rusher Shaquil Barrett, tight ends Jody Fortson and Jonnu Smith, defensive tackles Benito Jones, Jonathan Harris, and Neville Gallimore, safety Jordan Poyer, and offensive lineman Jack Driscoll.
Miami also re-signed tailback Salvon Ahmed, cornerback Nik Needham, offensive guard Robert Jones, receiver Braxton Berrios, and safety Elijah Campbell, all of whom will factor into how much the Dolphins actually have to spend in terms of cap space.
However, the Dolphins do have an additional $18.5M in cap space that’ll come June 1 with the release of cornerback Xavien Howard.
