Golden State Warriors’ Extreme Trade Deadline Plan Revealed
The Golden State Warriors know they need to make some changes, and those changes could be more extreme than some anticipated. During an episode of FanDuel’s “Run it Back” show, The Athletic’s Shams Charania said the Warriors plan to enter this trade deadline with the mindset that everyone not named Steph Curry is on the table.
“The mindset in Golden State right now is everyone but Steph Curry is on the table,” Charania said. “That’s their mindset. Now realistically, there’s an asterisk, right? Klay Thompson, would they want to keep him long-term and keep him in Golden State? I think that’s been their hope. They have not been able to reach a contract extension with him, and Draymond Green just got back from a [suspension]. Those have been the three core guys in the front office.”
As Charania noted, this of course does not mean the Warriors are actively looking to trade everyone outside of Curry, as they would like to hold onto certain players if possible; however, nobody outside of Curry seems untouchable right now.
“[The Warriors are] big fans of Jonathan Kuminga, big fans of Brandin Podziemski, they’re big fans of Trayce Jackson-Davis,” Charania added. “But [Andrew] Wiggins and everyone else on that roster has to be in play for this team. Two blowout losses in a row. They haven’t even been close in those games, so they’re going to be looking to make moves.
Steve Kerr Reacts to Warriors Receiving Zero Championship Votes in GM Survey
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr isn’t worried about the GM survey
The annual NBA general manager survey has been released, and the Golden State Warriors received zero championship votes. After a disappointing season that followed their 2022 title run, the Warriors are not expected by NBA general managers to regain their spot atop the league, which is something Steve Kerr was asked about.
“I don’t care,” Kerr said with a laugh. “Makes no difference. It never did anything for me when people picked us. Doesn’t do anything for me that they don’t, so it’s just stuff – interesting stuff for fans to read, but nothing helpful or harmful for us. Definitely not any bulletin board material. Not posting that on the locker room wall… I don’t think anybody cares.
After years of being the heavy favorites, the Warriors are no longer in that category. This is similar to how they were viewed prior to their 2022 championship, so Golden State will have to again prove that they still have what it takes to compete at the highest level.
It was not a great regular season or postseason for the Warriors last year, so it makes sense why they don’t have any championship hype. With the Denver Nuggets still favored in the Western Conference, and the Eastern Conference containing some serious firepower, Golden State is being overlooked, but it’s not something they’re worried about.
