Phillies are set to go all out and add Pitching Staff to hold their stance as best team in Major League Baseball
The Philadelphia Phillies are at a crossroads in their season, and any move might put them over the top. The Phillies’ time has come after winning the World Series in 2022 and then reaching the NLCS in 2023.
There aren’t many areas in Philadelphia that need to be improved. Last season, they were one of the top teams in Major League Baseball from start to finish.
The Phillies, like every other competitive team, will go out and get pitching. Philadelphia is expected to make changes in both the starting rotation and the bullpen.
It’s uncertain how huge those moves are going to be and what type of guys they’re going after, but there are names out there that can be a major upgrade.
Of those is lefty closer Josh Hader.
Mark Feinsand of MLB.com believes the Phillies could be a potential suitor.
“With Craig Kimbrel on the free-agent market, the Phillies could be looking for another late-inning arm to go with Seranthony Domínguez and José Alvarado. Although both of those pitchers can close, they seem to be most effective in the seventh and eighth, leaving the ninth available for Hader. Philadelphia already signed Aaron Nola to a seven-year, $172 million deal this winter, but it won’t be surprising to see the Phillies continue spending to bolster the pitching staff.”
This is certainly a move that could better their bullpen.
The one major question mark in this scenario is if Philadelphia’s interested in spending that much on a reliever. There’s been others who have speculated that they aren’t interested in Hader, despite being constantly seen as a potential destination.
Instead of spending that much money on one bullpen piece, perhaps they add multiple relievers for the same price that it would cost to land the elite closer.
