Tim Steidten declares publicly that his signing Edson Alvarez is now the main player for West Ham

Tim Steidten has spoken out and says his signing Edson Alvarez is now West Ham’s key player – an opinion shared by many fans.

When West Ham signed Kalvin Phillips on loan from Man City last month, many believed it would be bad news for Tomas Soucek or James Ward-Prowse.

And that should tell you everything there is to know about Edson Alvarez’s high regard in east London.

Journalist James Nursey of The Mirror made the perplexing assertion last week that he was informed David Moyes signed Phillips to start in the Hammers midfield ahead of El Machin.

Alvarez is widely regarded as – arguably – the team’s most important player.

And West Ham’s performances and results without him support that argument.

Although as far as West Ham technical director Tim Steidten is concerned, there is no argument to be had.

The German was hailed for overseeing a superb summer window. The crowning glory of which was sealing deals for Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus for a combined £72 from Ajax.

Now Steidten has spoken out and says his signing Alvarez is now West Ham’s key player.

Additionally, he disclosed that he assisted the Hammers in beating out Borussia Dortmund to sign the Mexican.

In an interview with Sky Sports Germany, Steidten remarked of Alvarez, “He has a very big influence on our (West Ham’s) game,” as Florian Plettenberg reported.

“Even though Dortmund was a little slow, I’m glad I got him,” the player said.

“I’ve known him for a very long time as well.

He is a crucial member of our team. He is an executive. a leader without equal. He is the best.

Steidten is exactly right. Alvarez is already incredibly adored by West Ham fans.

And he will be in the mix for the clubs’s prestigious Hammer of the Year honour without a doubt.

Not that it particularly matters because we should be West Ham UNITED, but this also puts to bed claims from some quarters that Alvarez was actually identified by Moyes.

Let’s hope Steidten stays at West Ham amid interest from Liverpool and is given money to spend in the summer window.
