The New York Mets still could end up making another move to help bolster the middle of the lineup. New York is in a better spot, but an area of need still is the designated hitter position.

There have been conflicting reports regarding the club’s plans, though. Some have said the club plans to bring in a slugger and some have said the team is comfortable with who they already have on the roster.

While this is the case, the New York Post’s Jon Heyman mentioned the Mets as a club “considering hitters.” “The Blue Jays continue to talk to Jorge Soler,” Heyman said. “The (Los Angeles Angels), (Arizona Diamondbacks), and Mets also are considering hitters.

The (San Francisco Giants) tried for Rhys Hoskins before he went to the (Milwaukee Brewers), so perhaps they are, as well. The (Texas Rangers) may, too, especially if their local TV issue gets resolved. J.D. Martinez is the other DH at the top of that market. Justin Turner is still a good one, and Tommy Pham and Eddie Rosario provide solid options.” There still are some intriguing sluggers out there that could help the Mets and not break the bank.

Martinez is one of the top options and has been mentioned as a fit for the Mets on numerous occasions. Turner has been mentioned as a possible reunion candidate and Soler even has popped up as an option a couple of times.

It’s unclear if the Mets truly want to add a slugger to the middle of the lineup, but there are some good options out there if this is the case.
