49ers predicted to poach $59 million superstar from division rival in free agency image

In a stunning move, the San Francisco 49ers have officially signed superstar linebacker Zaven Collins from the Arizona Cardinals for a whopping $59 million. The deal marks a significant shift in the NFC West landscape as the 49ers bolster their defense with one of the league’s rising stars.

Collins, a former first-round draft pick, has been a standout player for the Cardinals, known for his versatility and playmaking ability. Last season, he recorded over 100 tackles and proved to be a crucial asset in the Cardinals’ defensive scheme. His acquisition is expected to elevate the 49ers’ already formidable defense, which aims to make a deep playoff run this season.

Fans are buzzing with excitement, eager to see how Collins will fit into the 49ers’ plans. With this strategic signing, the 49ers not only strengthen their roster but also weaken a direct rival. As free agency continues, all eyes will be on how this blockbuster deal unfolds in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more updates!

San Francisco 49ers News, March 9: Colton McKivitz Extension, Potential Trade for Mac Jones, and More

Sometimes, it feels like the San Francisco 49ers have almost too many superstars for their own good. Could they add one more in 2025?

The 49ers defense is loaded with All-Pro talent–Fred Warner, Nick Bosa, Talanoa Hufanga, and Charvarius Ward are all among the elites at their positions. But the latter two are also free agents this offseason, and have not looked like themselves in 2024.

As the 49ers mull an extension for quarterback Brock Purdy, the budget will almost certainly be tight in future seasons. But if Hufanga and Ward leave, there could be room for at least one more superstar to fill out the San Francisco secondary.

On Monday, Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department predicted that the 49ers would add safety Budda Baker, currently in the final year of a $59 million contract with the Arizona Cardinals.

“With Talanoa Hufanga’s contract about to expire, San Francisco might be looking for some safety help this spring. Granted, the team does have Malik Mustapha and Ji’Ayir Brown to turn to, but it’d be hard to ignore adding someone with Baker’s résumé,” the authors said.

“The three-time All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowler can impact the game in several ways. He can line up as a deep safety, play in the box, cover the slot and even is a decent pass-rusher with 7.5 career sacks heading into this weekend. Also, the 28-year-old, who turns 29 in January, might be willing to take a cheaper deal to play for a Super Bowl contender.”

Baker is arguably the class of the safety position in the NFL right now, and after eight years of playing for mediocre Cardinals teams, he has to be itching to make it deep in the playoffs. He’s also played nearly equal amounts of strong safety and free safety in his career, making him the perfect versatile piece to add to a secondary.

Bringing Baker to the 49ers and solidifying the secondary as one of the league’s best would be a huge boost to San Francisco’s future title odds. Stealing him away from the Cardinals would be the cherry on top of the sundae.
