The San Francisco 49ers must pay a hefty penalty following a Week 5 incident.

The San Francisco 49ers are fresh off a dominant 36-24 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football. After defeating their NFC West rival, they eked past the Seahawks as the No. 1 team in the division.

Against the Seahawks at Lumen Field on Oct. 11, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, who was sacked zero times for the first time this season, completed 18-of-28 passes for 255 yards and three touchdowns.

Following their frustrating defeat to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5, the team needed this bounce back victory. During their 24-23 loss in front of a home crowd at Levi’s Stadium on Oct. 6, things got chippy in the third quarter, a situation that proved costly for the 49ers organization.

Niners linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who remains on the PUP [physically unable to perform) list while recovering from an Achilles injury, got involved in a scuffle between cornerback Charvarius Ward and Cardinals tight end Trey McBride.

After Ward and McBride’s battle continued onto the sideline, Greenlaw got up and pushed the tight end away.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero announced on Oct. 12, “The NFL fined the 49ers organization $100,000 and LB Dre Greenlaw $14,069 for an incident last week in which Greenlaw — who is on the PUP list — shoved Cardinals TE Trey McBride, per sources.

“McBride was also fined $9,545 for unsportsmanlike conduct… Ward was fined $11,255 for a facemask in the same sequence.”

The NFL is cracking down on inactive players and staff members’ actions during games. The league hit the Kansas City Chiefs with the same $100,000 fine following a Week 1 incident and the Los Angeles Rams had to pay up following their matchup against San Francisco in Week 3.

During Los Angeles’ 27-24 comeback win over the 49ers, Rams cornerback Derion Kendrick, who’s on injured reserve, got into it with running back Brandon Aiyuk on the sidelines.

There were no penalties called on the play, but all three players were issued fines on Saturday. McBride got docked $9,545 for unnecessary roughness, Ward got fined $11,255 for the face mask and Greenlaw was fined $14,069 for unnecessary roughness.

The Niners were punished as an organization for violating a rule that prohibits inactive players from making unnecessary contact with an opponent.
