Vikings’ Home Sign T.J. Smith and Nick Vigil before Week 17; Troy Dye is on injured reserve

The Vikings on Saturday placed linebacker Troy Dye on Injured Reserve ahead of hosting the Packers in Week 17.

Dye has been a core special teams player for Minnesota since his selection in 2020. He’s played 296 special teams snaps across all 15 Vikings games this season.

The California native also took on a bigger role for the defense when the Vikings were without Jordan Hicks, who returned to the lineup last week after leaving Minnesota’s Week 10 game against New Orleans.

Dye, who has a wrist injury, recorded 17 tackles, his first career sack and a forced fumble this season.

On Saturday, the Vikings signed defensive lineman T.J. Smith and linebacker Nick Vigil from their practice squad.

Since 2021, Smith has played in one game per season. In Week 9, he had one tackle on 12 defensive snaps against Atlanta.

This season, Vigil has spent time on Minnesota’s practice squad and 53-man roster. He was recently re-signed to the practice squad on Friday, when the Vikings promoted veteran Anthony Barr from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.

Vigil has played 83 special teams snaps across six Vikings games this season.

Minnesota also announced the elevation of cornerback Jaylin Williams and receiver Lucky Jackson from their practice squad. Williams and Jackson made their NFL debuts last week against Detroit after being elevated from the practice squad.

Williams played 13 defensive snaps and six more on special teams, and Jackson played one offensive snap and 12 on special teams against the Lions.
