Yankees Confirmed Superstar Ace In Blockbuster Trade To Help Fix Rotation
The New York Yankees still need to make a few more moves this offseason despite already making a major splash.
New York landed superstar slugger Juan Soto but still needs to improve the starting rotation before the 2024 season rolls around. The Yankees have been linked to multiple hurlers as options, but haven’t landed much-needed help yet.
It sounds like New York could look to improve the rotation through trade. If that ends up being the case, one option could be Cleveland Guardians ace Shane Bieber, according to The Athletic’s Brendan Kuty and Chris Kirschner.
“Cleveland Guardians ace Shane Bieber is in the final year of team control before hitting free agency next offseason,” Kuty and Kirschner said. “The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported that the Guardians are considering moving Bieber but could hold off until the trade deadline in the hopes that he builds up his value. Bieber has lost velocity each year since 2020 and is coming off an injury last season, but he was still effective even though his 3.81 ERA was the highest it’s been since his rookie year…
“The Guardians could use an outfielder. A package centered around Everson Pereira, who struggled after getting called up, could entice Cleveland, especially with the power he showed in the minors. Attaching a good pitching prospect like Henry Lalane should show the Guardians how serious they are about adding Bieber.”
The pair compiled a list of offseason predictions for the Yankees and floated Bieber as an option for the Yankees. He is just 28 years old and already has two All-Star nods and a Cy Young Award under his belt.
New York still has a solid farm system despite completing a massive trade for Soto and could get a deal done if it saw fit. Don’t be surprised to see speculation pick up as some of the top free-agent options start signing.
