In the wake of the announcement that star playmaker Dylan Brown to sign a lucrative multi-year deal $13 million with the Newcastle Knights, Parramatta Eels head coach Jason Ryles has addressed the inevitable speculation surrounding the departure of his star player. Brown’s move to the Knights has been a hot topic in the NRL world, with many fans and pundits left questioning the reasons behind his decision to leave the Eels.
After a whirlwind of rumors and heated commentary, Ryles took the opportunity to clear the air, offering insights into the club’s perspective on Brown’s departure. “You can’t win them all,” Ryles remarked in a candid conversation with reporters earlier this week. “In rugby league, there are always changes, and sometimes those changes are out of our control.”
Brown, who has been a key figure in Parramatta’s spine for several seasons, is set to earn a reported $1.5 million per year with the Knights, making his new deal one of the most substantial in NRL history. The long-anticipated move has raised eyebrows due to the Eels’ strong desire to keep Brown at the club. However, with financial incentives playing a big part in the decision, Ryles has emphasized that the club is not resentful about the situation.
“It’s a business. It’s a decision Dylan made for his future, and we have to respect that. We tried to make him an offer that we felt reflected his value, but in the end, he found a deal that was best for him and his family,” Ryles explained. “We’ll miss him, of course, but we wish him nothing but the best.”
Despite the optimism around Brown’s future with Newcastle, Ryles acknowledged the challenges that have come with losing one of the league’s top talents. “It’s disappointing when you lose a player of Dylan’s caliber, no doubt about it. But we’ve got a team here at Parramatta that’s been working hard, and we’re excited about what we can achieve moving forward,” he said.
In recent days, negative comments surrounding the situation have sparked heated debates on social media. Some have suggested that the Eels could have done more to retain their young star, while others have criticized the player’s decision to leave a club on the rise. Ryles, however, has kept his focus on the bigger picture.
“People are entitled to their opinions, but I don’t think it helps to dwell on the negative side of things. We’ve seen plenty of great players come and go throughout the years, and the key is always to keep building,” Ryles added. “I have full faith in the roster we have here. We’ve got a lot of talented players who are hungry for success.”
Looking forward, Ryles is optimistic about the Eels’ ability to move on without Brown. The team has been bolstered by several new signings and an already strong core of players, including the emergence of young talents and seasoned veterans who will continue to drive Parramatta forward.
“It’s part of the cycle of footy. We’ve seen it before, and we’ll see it again. Players come and go, but the club remains strong. We’ve got a culture here, and that’s what matters. We’re going to keep pushing, and we’re going to keep fighting for every win,” Ryles asserted.
As the NRL season progresses, the Eels will look to fill the void left by Brown’s departure. The club remains committed to maintaining a competitive edge, with Ryles leading the charge in what promises to be an exciting period for Parramatta.
For now, though, the coach’s message is clear: “You can’t win them all, but we’ve got a team here that will continue to compete, no matter what.”
