Eagles sign WR Danny Gray to practice squad, release G Sua Opeta
The Eagles add the former third-round pick who spent last season in Philadelphia.
The Eagles added wide receiver Danny Gray to the practice squad and released guard Sua Opeta on Monday.
Gray spent last season on Philadelphia’s practice squad and was with the team in Training Camp before getting waived in late July. He dealt with a finger injury during camp.
Gray started his collegiate career at Blinn, a junior college, and eventually transferred to SMU. After two seasons there, Gray was a third-round draft pick by the San Francisco 49ers in 2022. He appeared in 13 games as a rookie with one reception and was placed on Injured Reserve ahead of the 2023 season. He was waived by San Francisco in August of 2024.
Opeta signed with the Eagles’ practice squad on October 22. He has played 38 NFL games in his career, all with the Eagles, including starting 10 contests.
The Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles made a trade on Monday before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline.
The Dolphins sent edge rusher Jaelan Phillips to the Eagles for a 2026 third-round pick. The Eagles wanted to get some pass-rushing help as they try to win their second straight Super Bowl this season.
There were questions about the money situation for Phillips, but according to Philly Nation, the Eagles are taking on only a little over $500,000 of the money that Phillips is owed for this season. The Dolphins are eating the other $6.04 million.
Phillips was in his fifth season with the Dolphins before the Dolphins traded him to the Eagles. He has played in nine games this season, compiling 25 tackles, three sacks and a fumble recovery.
Phillips was picked by the Dolphins in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Miami. He has played in 55 games since coming into the NFL, compiling 177 tackles, 26 sacks, a forced fumble, four fumble recoveries, an interception and seven passes defended.
The Eagles are coming off their bye week and are 6-2 heading into their next game against the Green Bay Packers on Nov. 10. The Eagles are in first place in the NFC East and want to further their grip on the division.
After their game against the Packers, the Eagles will take on the Detroit Lions on Nov. 16 and the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving (Nov. 23).
Kickoff for next Monday’s Eagles-Packers game is set for 8:15 p.m. ET.
